The Bus Incident

On Friday, March 17th, my parents picked me up early from school. They came at 1:30pm. We waited at the bus stop, but the bus didn’t come. It turns out the bus was an hour and a half late. When the bus finally got here, we got on but there weren’t enough seats, so Rayne and Zephyr had to share a seat.

We started doing screen time on the bus because it was a long bus ride and our parents said we could. I was in the middle of a game when the bus started to smoke. We quickly got out of the bus and on to the freeway. Cars were zooming by and in the chaos a booming sound happened right in front of where I was sitting. I looked up and I saw a truck crashed into the side of the freeway.

After about an hour on the freeway (and after six tow trucks passed us to the crashed truck), a huge tow truck came. Everyone got back on the bus. The tow truck started moving, pulling the bus behind it.

It was about ten-twenty minutes before the truck dropped us off at the curb of a street then drove away. A minute later, an empty bus came driving toward us. People around me cheered for the new bus, and climbed on. Then, in all the excitement and confusion, our busmates felt linked and did some karaoke!

All in all, I felt completely bonded to those busmates and would yell ‘Hi!’ whenever I saw them at the festival. It was a sort of terrified feeling, that I wouldn’t survive the experience. But then, now I feel special that I DID experience it because that doesn’t happen to alot of people!

  2. What an experience! I’m glad you are safe! I loved how you described that end – the feeling of it being terrifying AND exhilarating – when you know you survived something that most people have not. And now you have a bond with all of those people who also went through it too. What an awesome post. PS – did you do karaoke too????

    • Thanks. Yeah, we did some karaoke on the second bus. All the songs were pretty old so I didn’t know any. Me and Zephyr wore earplugs because it was really loud. A guy across us brought a microphone so he shared it with everyone. My mom sang Besame Mucho once!

  3. Emmy, you word choice and use of suspense in your blog is great! The photos augment your prose. I do so enjoy reading your posts. I’m also very relieved you, Rayne and everyone on the bus are safe.

  4. That was such stinky thick smoke coming out of the bus, wasn’t it! And the truck crash was scary for all of us. I was afraid maybe there would be a huge multi-vehicle pile-up.
Glad we made it to the festival eventually!

  5. Whoa Emmy! What a ride! Better than anything at Disney 😉 How incredible that the whole bus had such a positive attitude and turned lemons into lemonade. Or was that your poetic license? In any case, that’s a heckuva great story and I can’t ready more of yours!!! Jacobo and Ainoa are at school now but I will share with them this evening!
