• The Bus Incident

On Friday, March 17th, my parents picked me up early from school. They came at 1:30pm. We waited at the bus stop, but the bus didn’t come. It turns out the bus was an hour and a half late. When the bus finally got here, we got on but there weren’t enough seats, so Rayne and Zephyr had to share a seat.

We started doing screen time on the bus because it was a long bus ride and our parents said we could. I was in the middle of a game when the bus started to smoke. We quickly got out of the bus and on to the freeway. Cars were zooming by and in the chaos a booming sound happened right in front of where I was sitting. I looked up and I saw a truck crashed into the side of the freeway.

After about an hour on the freeway (and after six tow trucks passed us to the crashed truck), a huge tow truck came. Everyone got back on the bus. The tow truck started moving, pulling the bus behind it.

It was about ten-twenty minutes before the truck dropped us off at the curb of a street then drove away. A minute later, an empty bus came driving toward us. People around me cheered for the new bus, and climbed on. Then, in all the excitement and confusion, our busmates felt linked and did some karaoke!

All in all, I felt completely bonded to those busmates and would yell ‘Hi!’ whenever I saw them at the festival. It was a sort of terrified feeling, that I wouldn’t survive the experience. But then, now I feel special that I DID experience it because that doesn’t happen to alot of people!

  • Japan Travels

So its been a long trip in Japan so far but I’ll just talk about my favorite parts. I really liked this one time on January, 26th where my family went to Takeshita Street. Takeshita had a lot of shops and stores and a few restaurants. We found a sushi restaurant and that’s where we went. I have to say, this sushi was the best I had ever tasted. It was so fresh and so delicious and I absolutely loved it. If you ever go to Japan then I recommend Misakiko sushi. After sushi we got to go to the candy store, Candy A Go Go. Candy A Go Go had a lot of sweets including these huge marshmallows!

Another fun time was when we went skiing! Skiing was really awesome except my mom couldn’t be with us because she was taking care of Rayne. Once, Zephyr decided to ski in the fresh snowy powder and his boot fell off! That was really funny. It snowed so much that the hotel staff were seen shoveling snow off a van. We also rode the gondola once to the top of the mountain. After the gondola, my mom called us and said that Rayne had Covid-19.

The white top of the van is all snow!

We found a cabin in Hakuba called Panorama Homes A. The cabin was spacey and nice but the wifi was super bad and kept on cutting out. We went skiing the first time in a week yesterday but when we got to the top of a chairlift, Rayne got nervous and ended up walking down the ski hill. Today we went skiing(last time this winter) and Rayne skied with us. So anyway, today was pretty fun and I’m sad to leave Japan soon.

We left Japan on February 11th. I was really sad; I like Japan a tad bit better than Taiwan. Japan was really pretty and the snow is cool. I love snow. But anyway, I’m looking forward to our friends, Beth, Chris, Obie, Emmet and Asa to visit us in Taiwan in a few weeks!

  • Saturday School Day

On Saturday, the 7th of January, I went to school. My brothers and I were really grumpy that we had to go to school on a Saturday but we went anyway. When I got to my classroom, everyone was wearing the class uniform; a blue t-shirt with a number 5 on it. I didn’t know why until my teacher said we were going on a hike. We left at around 8:40am. I only had my water bottle with me because my backpack would be too heavy. We walked to 18-Peaks mountain. We saw the view and then went down the mountain. On the way, we stopped to play a game. Everyone has class numbers, 1-30, so it was evens against odds. We put stickers on the backs of our t-shirts and the object of the game was to tear off the stickers. Eventually, only two odds were left so the evens won because the evens had 7 players with stickers intact. I was happy because I was on the evens team! Anyway, we got back to the classroom and ate waffles for lunch. Some people got red bean waffles, some got chocolate marshmallow waffles. At the end of the day, my dad picked me up early from school and we headed home. I thought it would be a really boring day but it was actually kind of fun!

  • Graduation Trip Day 2

My three group-mates and I woke up in the hotel room around 6:50. We got ready and went down to the breakfast buffet. After breakfast we got our things ready and headed towards the bus. We got off the bus at a museum. The museum had lots of rooms with buddhas, pottery, ancient clothing etc. After 1-2 hours at the museum we got back to the bus. We made a short stop for lunch then kept riding. We rode the bus for 1 hour then got off again at an old train station. We got to a large indoor area that smelled like wood. The orange shirt counselors gave us all building kits with wooden blocks to make a stool. They also gave us glue and a hammer. About an hour later we all made little stools. Then, we went back to the bus. We were riding for about half an hour when we finally made it to Hsinchu. It was 5:30 p.m and already dark. I got off the bus and found my family waiting for me. Overall, I really liked the trip and I want to do it again.

  • Graduation Field trip (Bi4 yü4 lü3 xing2) Day 1

I haven’t posted in a while because my email needed to verified but now I will start posting more. On Oct 6-7 my class and I went on a graduation field trip to E-DA Theme Park. It is about 3-4 hours away from our apartment. On Thursday October 6 I woke up really early at 5:45 a.m and got to school. All the 6th graders coming on the trip gathered near the upper gate for the trip. Each 6th grade class had a class uniform on. I’m class 605 so I have the class 5 shirt. After about five minutes while people took last potty breaks, we went out the gates and into big buses. Since we were staying overnight one night everyone had an extra bag along with their backpacks. We put the other bags under the bus. An orange-shirt guy who I didn’t recognize was talking with our teacher and every other class had one orange-shirt staff so I figured they must’ve been assigned to us temporarily for the trip. Along the bus were tvs so we watched an hour of Spider-man. I thought it was pretty intense because it was the live action Spiderman multiverse but it was only on for the last hour of the ride so we didn’t finish it. When we got to E-DA it was already 11:30! Our class walked to the amusement park and then our teacher said that we could all split up. But we had to go in mini groups of 8. She said to meet back at 4:00. I was really excited because the games were all free and we had 5 hours to play things! We played some cool games like rocking ship but then our group of 8 split up because half of the girls in our group wanted to do the splash coaster. I didn’t want to do it so me and a couple others watched. When I saw our group come out, they were all wearing the rain ponchos that our teacher gave us. The coaster zoomed down into a shallow pool of water and created a huge splash! At 4 p.m everyone in 605 class gathered and we took some pictures. At about 6:00 we walked to the hotel next to E-DA called E-DA Skylark hotel. The restaurant was the kind with a lazy susan and there was a lot of food. After that we headed to a mall in E-DA. We sat on the floors downstairs for an hour while the orange-shirt staff whistled and yelled. The lights were so bright and the sound was so loud because everyone was scream yolayolayolayo. It was chaotic. After that we went to our rooms, took showers and went to bed. The people in my room were night owls though. By the time we fell asleep it was 12:00.

  • Looking Around

After settling in Hsinchu, my family and I started looking around. We live next to a very busy road called GuangFu Rd. There are lots of interesting restaurants along the road. We found the restaurant we first went to in Hsinchu. It is a dim sum place called Chumei. It also has really good food and deserts! We finally went to the Hsinshu zoo. Its a small zoo about 1-2 miles from our apartment. We ate lunch at the zoo too. Just 3-4 weeks ago we found a very hidden-in-plants restaurant tucked in next to Guang Fu Rd. We don’t know its name so we just call it the Hidden Koi since it has cute little koi fish near the entrance. The food(noodles, meat, rice) is pretty good and their soup broth is very clear and yummy!

  • Time for School

August 29th me, Rayne and Zephyr had our first day of school. It was a really big school with 8 classes in each grade. Most of it was in chinese.

  • To Taipei

Before starting school we went to Taipei for a week to visit our friends, Mila and Dai. They are from SF too and flew to Taiwan in June 2022. I went to a rock-climbing summer camp there with Mila and Dai at a sports center. Mila and Dai’s neiborhood is very different from ours like how their neiborhood is probably more busy.
